Backed by the strong scientific foundation of the State Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering at East China University of Science and Technology, ZIONBIO has developed and industrialized a proprietary platform technology—“Sequential Heterotrophic–Dilution–Photoinduction (SHDP)”—along with a series of derived innovations. This platform was developed by our founder, Professor Yuanguang Li, the Chief Scientist of Chinese National 973 Program for Microalgae Research.
ZIONBIO’s SHDP technology marks a successful transformation of the mass cultivation mode from traditional facility-based agriculture（photoautotrophic cultivation in open race ponds）to fully industrialized production（Heterotrophic cultivation in fully enclosed GMP-grade bioreactor）. This innovation effectively overcomes long-standing challenges such as poor product quality (due to high levels of heavy metals and microbial contamination) and low production efficiency caused by weather fluctuations and pest threats. As a result, the final products are characterized by exceptionally low levels of microorganisms and heavy metals, ensuring consistent quality and safety.
